Plastic matrix

« Back to Glossary Index

Plastic matrix is a technical term from the field of fiber-reinforced plastics (FRP). The plastic matrix has the task of binding and fixing the reinforcing fibers. It can consist of thermoplastics such as PEEK and PPS or thermosets such as epoxy resin and PU. The reinforcing fiber, on the other hand, can be glass fiber, for example, or carbon fiber. Since it is the plastic matrix in the fiber composite that enables the simultaneous introduction and removal of forces in the fibers, the selection of the matrix system is highly relevant for the performance of the fiber-reinforced plastic.
