Process vi­su­al­iza­tion deals with the graph­i­cal prepa­ra­tion and pre­sen­ta­tion of more or less com­plex work­flows and process­es. In prac­tice, process vi­su­al­iza­tion to­day is main­ly done with the help of soft­ware pro­grams. The main ar­eas of ap­pli­ca­tion are process op­ti­miza­tion, lo­gis­tics, au­toma­tion, qual­i­ty as­sur­ance, process en­gi­neer­ing, man­age­ment, busi­ness ad­min­is­tra­tion as well as re­search and de­vel­op­ment. In the con­text of process vi­su­al­iza­tion, among oth­er things, the sim­u­la­tion of process­es al­so plays a cen­tral role.
