Leads, con­nec­tors and ca­bles of ther­mo­cou­ples and com­pen­sat­ing ca­bles are col­or-cod­ed ac­cord­ing to spe­cif­ic codes. DIN 43714 lists the Ger­man iden­ti­fi­ca­tion col­ors for the col­or iden­ti­fi­ca­tion of ther­mo­cou­ples and com­pen­sat­ing ca­bles. Their col­or scale dif­fers from, among oth­ers, the US (ANSI MC 91.1), Eu­ro­pean (DIN EN 60584), British (BS4937/1843) and French (NF C 42–324) col­or codes. The iden­ti­fi­ca­tion col­ors make vis­i­ble which ma­te­ri­als (Cu, Cu­Ni, FE, NiCr, NiCr­Si and oth­ers) the leads, plugs and ca­bles of the ther­mo­cou­ples are made of and how their elec­tri­cal po­lar­iza­tion is applied.
